THE COURSES

PHOTOGRAVURE PRINTMAKING MASTERCLASS

DATES

13 - 19 Sept 2020

20 - 26 June 2021

19 - 25 Sept 2021

This is a FIVE day comprehensive group course that covers the entire workflow of direct-to-plate (DTP) polymer photogravure printmaking, from processing a digital image to printing with a traditional etching press. It is ideal for those who wish to gain new knowledge or to improve on existing practice.

This is one of the very few photogravure workshops in Europe that teaches DTP photogravure printmaking. It is essentially a practical course, although there is always room for creativity and experimentation.

The workshop will include:

  • an overview of polymer photogravure print making with examples of different approaches

  • learning how to calibrate polymer plates for UV light exposure and accurate tonal reproduction using 1-2 A6 plates

  • processing image files using Adobe Photoshop

  • printing direct to the polymer plate using an Epson SC P-800, exposing and processing the plate using a UV unit or measured sunlight, and rounding the edges and corners of the plate for print

  • preparing dampened paper in advance; and the process of inking, wiping and pulling the plate through the etching press

  • I will share personal tips and methods
